Search Engine Optimisation

I'm now a number of weeks into my planned domination of the web, using the power of search engines. So far, I've managed to increase my ranking on various key words from the 'never to be seen bottom end of the listings' upto the 'if the user clicks through a few pages of search results they might find me'. Whilst this is very pleasing, I'm still pushing to improve things even more.

Looking at my website log files, I can see that the number of referrals from search engines is growing daily, which I hope will continue. I have been adding content on a daily basis as much as possible, and this, along with the occasional tweak of structure and naming conventions seems to be doing the trick.

My next move is going to be a slight reorganisation of the feature car section. At the moment this is a single page which serves up links to each individual car. This can be improved by creating sub-sections per model, in effect taking the content from one page and splitting it down to four pages, with a intermediate sub page of links. Although this will drive the user deeper into the site, and result in three clicks rather than two to get to the relevant feature car, it will help the organisation of the site, and have the added benefit of being classed as extra content.

It is amazing to see the number of small tweaks that can be made on a daily basis to a website, just making small refinements to little bits of code and presentation. I know part of this is down to the 'never happy' syndrome that afflicts alot of web designers, and one of the reasons why the corporate world of web design has a lot of designers who never manage to finish off their personal portfolio sites - its difficult to finish off something that you constantly want to tweak.

Orignally I had planned on spending a month on optimising the website, belie
ving that it wouldn;t take any longer than that to get the results I wanted. I've now revised that thought, and have decided to give myself until the end of the year to get the ranking I want on the major search engines.
