Site updates
I've finally managed to get the site back up and running, having taken it down early Saturday morning to implement some much needed changes.
So what has actually changed? Well, biggest difference is the move to get rid of the pop-up windows. The more I've read over the last few weeks about web design, the more I came to realise that opening new windows when they are not expected leads to a bad user experience. So they've gone.
I've also changed the hyper-link colours be more in keeping with web standards, so visitors should now be able to see what they have visited, as opposed to the links retaining the same colour regardless of whether they had been visited or not.
In the background, I've refined the code to be a little more compact, and had to devise a 'back to thumbnails' link to enable vistors to jump back to where they came if neccessary. Although not perfect (it can be confused if the user uses the back button) it works well enough for me to be happy to implement it.
I'm hoping that this will be the last set of design changes I have to make for the forseeable future, although I do have a tendancy to get bored and want to change things round, so we'll see how it goes.
